Call for Lyne to be the home of a Local Energy Hub

Independent candidate Jeremy Miller has called for Lyne to be the home of a Local Energy Hub, a ‘one stop shop’ where local residents can find out how to save on their energy bills and access grants and subsidies.

The Local Energy Hub program brings an ‘information centre’ where residents can better understand their electricity bills, provide assistance in accessing grants and subsidies to install solar and batteries and assist in creating local community renewable energy projects.

“When I learnt about these Hubs I could see the benefits for our community to save money and access the subsidies that are out there,” Jeremy Miller said. “There was no plan to bring a Local Energy Hub to our area and I want to fix that, I’m not prepared for us to miss out yet again.”

“We don’t want handouts, we want the tools to do the job ourselves.  A Local Energy Hub would give our farmers, families and small businesses the support they need to take control of their energy future.”

Justin Whelan, spokesperson for the national Local Energy Hubs campaign, voiced his support for the proposal to establish a local energy hub in Lyne, noting that many other regional communities across Australia are seeking similar initiatives.

“We’re at a crucial moment to make sure the transition to renewable energy brings lasting, local benefits to the regions,” Mr Whelan said.

“Communities are ready to take action, but they need accessible, trusted support—someone nearby who can explain their options, help make sense of government programs, and offer real ways to lower energy costs,” he added.

“These hubs can also build trust—something sorely needed right now—with clear, transparent information and local engagement. That's the best way to make sure renewables are done right for local communities."

With energy costs rising and the climate crisis deepening, Jeremy Miller says Lyne can’t afford to sit on the sidelines.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our region. Let’s make sure we don't miss it.”
